Nova PhDs

A forum for grads of Villanova's Philosophy PhD program

november jfp out
here's what i see new (excluding the latest web ads i mentioned in the october jfp thread and several holdovers from the october print edition) -- this really does look pretty grim, especially paired with the fair to poor october issue:

hofstra: 19th excluding nietzsche
skidmore: 19th-20th and phil./lit.
uc denver: philosophy of mind and/or phenomenology
toronto: 20th century, particularly phenomenology
bucknell: aesthetics (ammon!)

villanova's environmental search is going again, along with the continental search and a catherine of siena ethics fellow.

francis marion u. in florence, sc (near myrtle beach) has an ad for a generalist. i have a very good friend there in the psych. department that i'd have no problem putting a word in through, if anyone is interested in that position.

good luck to everyone!

Yes, The October one is starting to look much better compared to this one. The Toronto job would of course be great and falls in as being another one of these ideal jobs of which I think there are a few this semester. With Skidmore and Bucknell we start to get into traumas of previous years, having applied for these exact jobs before. . . Oh well, c'est la vie.

The Toronto job is a senior position, and Skidmore's is only a one year. I didn't see that phenomenology and 19th Century are included in UC Denver's, so that is interesting (I think I was thrown off by the fact that they include "Health Sciences Center" in their name, and assumed it was for ethics). I know first hand that they have some very committed and sharp undergrads (see my post on SPEP).

I don't know if you guys noticed this, but they already have a bunch of new web-only ads up (departments that couldn't get their acts together in time, I guess...). I didn't look too closely, but I think the only one that mentions continental is Yeshiva, and they mainly want ancient.

Yes. I just noticed that the Toronto one was senior either. And I don't think that any of the web aids are primarilly continental. I think I'll only be adding one job from this issue. Granted, I'm not doing a full search, but even if I were I think I'd add under 10 (including AOS opens). . .
