Villanova Robe Pictures
aha. i didn't realize we could do that! fantastic. first, here is a picture of me, jack, and tom, for comparison. the one thing is, i'm not entirely sure the white is velvet on these (at least, i can't tell that it is from the pictures.)

here is a better one with just jack.

here's one with father dobbin.

and finally, one outside with jack and dobbin both in it, for comparison, so you can see that the color is in fact the same (though they look different from just the indoor/outdoor shot comparison).

how many MB's of storage do we have available on this site? i don't want to overload it — i'll pull these down if they're taking too much up.

I think we should be fine with the storage space.

if it's not clear, that's dobbin at the far podium and caputo walking down the stairs on the near side, in the last picture.

Hey everyone. I have to say I'm mostly concerned about getting a better hat. My cardboard is getting all bent and wavy.

Anyway, sorry I haven't made any posts before now, but the fact is I am not very blog-literate and I couldn't ever figure out how this thing works. Even making replies was problematic for a while due to some trouble about my password. And I still can't seem to understand how one makes a post on the front page, which is somewhat frustrating. Any help?

In any event, I thought I would pass along this link: http://nasph.tamu.edu/. It's the homepage for the (rather awkwardly named) society that Ted and I, along with some others, have been working on. Our first conference is this coming weekend, so it'll be nice to see things come to some measure of fruition. There will also be a satellite session at SPEP this Fall, at the usual Thursday morning time, for those arriving early.

I have been busy lately and this slipped my mind, sorry...anyway, Tim sent me some info he got from Nova re the robes. Here are the important parts:

"In terms of gown color, the protocol is that the school picks the color of the gown...Not that we have to follow protocol, but that’s what it is. So, the PhD gowns that have cool field colors come from schools that have that field color for all of their gowns...At VU, the blue gown with white stripes is only worn by endowed chairs (there are 6 or so) and the president. Personally [this is Tim saying this, but I agree] I think it would be inappropriate for us to wear a blue gown with white stripes...What you can play with a bit are the colors of the stripes and the colors of the hats... A nice VU twist might be white piping around the blue velvet stripes."
